When I think about resistance, a defiant "you can't make me!" comes to mind -- like a child fighting for my independence, holding hard and fast to ideas and beliefs I believed to be true. "We fight for our delusions," a teacher once told me. Yes, we surely do. And it works ... until it doesn't. It's hard to move forward with our own stubbornness and resistance in the way. One of the hardest parts of change is looking at our own resistance, looking at the things we believe about ourselves and don't like, the shadow self as Carl Jung coined it. It's easy to hide behind or justify our resistance with statements like "It's just the way I am" or "I'm just to busy." Until we surrender and acknowledge the truths about ourselves and the areas of our lives that are not working for us, we can never move forward and claim the life we truly desire.
